Tosin Morohunfola

Writer/Director/Producer

Tosin Morohunfola is an actor, writer, director and son of Nigerian immigrants now living in Kansas City, where he grew up. He is most known for his smoldering intensity alongside David Oyelowo on "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" (Paramount+) and his magnetic charm as a regular on “Run The World” (STARZ).

Tosin is also an independent filmmaker whose festival-selected shorts include: "Endowed", a parable about fatherhood, and "On Sight", a social justice police thriller. Most recently, his proof-of-concept short “The Pulpit: Prelude” wracked up a dozen film festival accolades including “Best Actor” (Micheaux Film Fest).  Tosin’s writing centers on stories of empathy, awareness, and belonging.

On TV, he recurs on “Julia” (HBOmax), “The Chi” (Showtime), “Love Is (OWN), “Black Lightning” (CW) and “Chicago Med’ (NBC). He also stars in Amazon’s Blackbox, BET’s North of the 10 and Always A Bridesmaid, the erotic thriller, Friend Request and Oscar-winner Kevin Willmott’s “The 24th”, which was nominated for a NAACP Image award.  Up next, he’ll costar in 1992 with Ray Liotta and Tyrese Gibson.

Tosin is also an Associate Producer on the new independent feature “Another Happy Day”, which is a quirky, yet touching postpartum comedy that shines a light on young motherhood.

 

Kevin Willmott

Executive Producer

Kevin Willmott is an Oscar & Academy Award Winning director and screenwriter, and professor of film at Kansas University. He is known for focusing on untold black stories including writing and directing “Ninth Street” (1999), “C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America” (2004), “Bunker Hill” (2008), and also “The 24th” (2020) and “Destination Planet Negro” (2013) both starring Tosin Morohunfola. He frequently collaborates with Spike Lee, including on “Da 5 Bloods” (2020) “Chiraq” (2015) and most notably, Kevin won an Oscar award and BAFTA award with Lee for writing BlacKkKlansman (2018, Best Adapted Screenplay). An expert screenwriter, Kevin’s story consultation on The Pulpit has been invaluable.

  • Christian Watkins

    Associate Producer

    Reverend Christian Watkins specializes in Constructive Theologies and community-based social change. She is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. Her ministry focuses on fostering alternative faith communities, anti-racist and LGBTQ+ inclusive practices, mentorship, environmental sustainability, and inter-belief solidarity. She is a social science researcher, educator, speaker, writer, actor, musician, and the Executive Director of a faith-rooted 501(c)3 at Kansas State University. Born and raised in rural Southeast Kansas, she is passionate about storytelling that uses nuanced pastoral narratives to lead us towards more dynamic community. As an Associate Producer, Christian specializes in Fundraising and Strategic Development for the project and acts as the religious consultant.

  • Christopher Commons

    Director of Photography / Associate Producer

    Christopher Commons is an Emmy® nominated cinematographer. He is known for his bold, instinctual, and emotive style. Chris has worked professionally in visual storytelling for the past thirteen years; and for the past six years he has acted as the Director of Photography for countless commercials, music videos, documentaries, and feature films—including the viral sensation, “Dispatch”, starring Tosin, as well as award-winning feature, "Adira." Chris worked on Tosin’s previous film, "On Sight." His feature cinematography includes the award-winner "Adira" and most recently, “Headcount” (2023). And Chris executive-produced and filmed the short proof-of-concept for “The Pulpit” feature, called “The Pulpit: Prelude.” In addition to technical lighting techniques, he favors instinctual camera movements which rely on the interaction between the talent and the camera. The core of his craft includes telling a compelling narrative which impacts people’s lives. He gravitates towards projects which positively challenge the viewer’s worldview and stories which focus on the importance of love and acceptance. A Chicago native, Chris resides in Kansas City with his talented wife and their beloved pooch.

  • Mary Kay Cook

    Producer

    Mary Kay Cook is an Emmy® award-winning producer, with credits spanning multiple mediums, including features, tv, documentaries, short films, web series, and music videos. Her work has been featured at international film festivals, in theaters, on television, and online. Producing highlights include I Used to Go Here (2020), Native Son (2019) and The View from Tall (2016) and most recently, Heist 88 (2023) with Courtney B. Vance. As a production professional, she has 10+ years experience producing creative content. Crafting hundreds of commercials and branded content spots for a wide variety of clients, from local Chicago businesses to global Fortune 500 companies, she has brought them all in on time & on budget.
